30km Fynbos Trail

This full route is a toughie with three steep climbs and a total altitude gain of 1229m. The runs starts and ends at Witkrans, and after a relatively gentle start the first climb takes runners up the Baviaansfontein Valley and onto the shade of ancient white pear and wild olive trees. The trail then meanders through magnificent fynbos to the Grootbos Milkwood Forest where runners will follow the forest trail path under these majestic, thousand year old trees. The trail then heads up Swartkransberg to the 13km mark. The route then takes runners down through pristine fynbos in full spring time bloom and through the ancient Steynsbos milkwood forest at Fynbos Retreat at the 21km mark. From here it's down to the Witvoetskloof forest and waterfall (beware of slippery bridges, steps and boardwalks) and then up the steep ascent of the second major climb of the run to near the summit of Grootberg. The route then descends quite steeply into Flower valley through the beautiful Stinkhoutsbos Forest and down the valley to Flower Valley Farm. Along the trail back to Witkrans and hop into the wood fired hot tub for a well deserved soak.

Running time: Top runners can expect to take around 140-160mins to complete the 30km route and slower runners around 5 hours.
